In this issue...

The Fall/Winter 2009 is part one of a two-part series exploring the significance of Northwestern’s four pillars. In this issue, we focus on what it means to be wholeheartedly Christian and academically excellent. In the Spring/Summer 2010 Pilot we’ll look at the meaning of the pillars focused on community and engaged in the world.

The four pillars of Northwestern College help identify what sets us apart. They explain the difference that even visitors recognize and experience. More than mere marketing language, these pillars communicate our strengths, foundation, goals and identity.

Why four pillars? Because each one represents an essential part of Northwestern’s identity.

For us, being wholeheartedly Christian is a cornerstone. It is because of Christ that we pursue academic excellence, focus on community and engage the world.

One of the hallmarks of Northwestern is its people. Along with their wisdom and expertise in their fields, our faculty bring a desire to nurture and mentor students. Our faculty scholars don’t settle for excellence exclusively as academicians. While they are indeed respected scholars and educators, they are also men and women of faith. Their excellence in scholarship is an outpouring of excellence in life—not as a result of their striving, but because of God’s grace.
