Enjoys taking a break from studying to relax on The Island
Why do you like Northwestern?
I like Northwestern for its beautiful campus and for what the school stands for: Making much of Jesus Christ and sending out workers with that intention in mind. It’s very rare to see a school still engrained in that truth. You feel the love through out the campus, on people’s faces, on the athletic fields, in Chapel, in the lunch room, and through the hallways.
Favorite classes?
Storytelling with Professor Ann Sorenson. She let us use our creativity to create our own screenplays and Northwestern gives us the resources to create those screenplays on film! I have used what I learned in that class every time I pick up the camera now. Northwestern provides the latest technology and equipment so we may be at the top notch in our education.
Ethics with Professor Alicia Peterson, because the class challenged our worldviews, and helped us to think autonomously and she encouraged individuals in class to discuss worldviews and to debate over controversial issues that determine how we ought to live.
Favorite professors?
Professor Ann Sorenson, for her passion for Film and in teaching it to students, and her genuine love for both! And Professor Alicia Peterson for her passion for ethics and unique ways of challenging her students to think for themselves and her down to earth way of teaching college students.
College involvements?
Northwestern Men’s Soccer, Reach the U, a NWC student ministry in partnership with students at the University of Minnesota, and also Streetlight, a ministry to the homeless in Minneapolis.
How has your relationship with the Lord changed since you've been here?
Before I came to Northwestern, I had so many questions and my love for God was, you know, high-school level. I didn’t really pursue God or know how to pursue God to my fullest extent. But my love for the Christ has grown leaps and bounds since being at Northwestern, much in part, because of the Christian community that the college fosters. I have come to grow in my passion for Christ and His great work, and have made so many great friends with the same passion.
Favorite place on campus?
The Island, because when you just need to get away from studying for a bit, it is right next to the library so you can go outside, take a breather, and enjoy God on beautiful Lake Johanna.
Favorite Twin Cities location outside of NWC?
I absolutely love downtown St. Paul for it’s historical buildings, free ice skating during the winter, the many intriguing little shops everywhere, and the Science Museum and Excel Energy Center are down there too.
Plans after graduation?
I would like to play soccer for the rest of my life, but if not that I would be content in making a film on this ongoing idea for a film in my head, that just needs the budget and the camera crew to make it. Northwestern has prepared me to go out into the real world, and to share my love for Jesus Christ in all that I do, to make much of Him everyday.
If someone asked you why they should attend NWC, what would you tell them?
I would tell them they should attend because of the staff and faculty. They want to get to know students personally unlike many state colleges around. They want to get to know your name and what you are interested in. They care about where you headed and they are willing to even just sit down and pray with you. Nowhere else have I seen such passion for the students’ lives. The professors’, the students’, and even the employees’ love for Christ is very encouraging, and what you learn in the classroom only strengthens your love for Him in your growing knowledge of Him in your studies.
