AMERICA READS TUTOR
Education Department

Position Summary
Placement in an elementary school classroom to tutor children in reading and literacy skills in cooperation with the classroom teacher. Arrive at the elementary school on time and report to the office to sign in, then report to the teacher and work with the students accordingly, doing reading and literacy skill tutoring. Assist the teacher related to literacy skill development for the students.

Qualifications
Students must qualify for federal work study program funding, which is verified through the NWC Financial Aid Office. Student employee must own a car and have car insurance, be able to drive to and from the elementary school. Student employee must have a class schedule that allows them to be in an elementary school as needed by the cooperating teacher, preferably mornings when reading is taught. Job is not required M - F, but can be done 2 to 5 days per week. Student employee must be able to read fluently out loud and have previous experience working with young children.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TUTOR FOR ADA
CAPSS (Center of Academic Programs for Support Services)

Hiring now for fall 2008

Position Summary:
Responsibilities include setting up equipment, training students with ADA needs on usage of various technologies; work with the Disabilities Office of Support Services (DOSS), with Culture, Language and Transition (CLT) students, media services, and to be the Campus Technologies ADA point person. Must be able to train on Moodle, JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Kurzweil 3000, and other ADA-related software as assigned.

Qualifications:
Open to any major, especially psychology, special education, or computer-related field. The candidate must be competent and experienced in learning and trouble-shooting basic technology. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition, the candidate must be able to interact and communicate with a wide variety of students and professors in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner, be able to maintain confidentiality, and be able to keep accurate records. Faculty recommendation preferred.

BLUE ROOM SERVER
Event Services

Hiring for Fall 08

Position Summary
Delivering and setting up campus breaks, setting up backstage dinner concert dinners, setting up Blue Room Banquet dinners and weddings and dressing tables, vacuuming the Blue Room, dishwashing on occasion, assisting the Catering Manager with kitchen organization and setting up Blue Room for various banquet and meeting functions and upholding safety and sanitation policies.

Qualifications
Must be neat, organized and be able to take initiative. Previous experience helpful. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

CAMPUS MINISTRIES EVENT ASSISTANT
Campus Ministries

Short-term student worker, approximately August 15-September 30, 10 hours/week

Position Summary
Assist Campus Ministries (CM) staff in details related to CM events, specifically the upcoming “Truth X Change” conference, Sept. 26-27. Responsibilities include creating, proofing, coordinating distribution of promotional materials; developing efficient, effective promotion to the student body; communicating with various people on- and off-campus related to events; tracking total registration count and its effects on other aspects of the conference; assisting as needed with set-up, during conference, clean-up, and post-conference wrap-up.

Qualifications
Candidate must have outstanding written and oral communication skills, ability to organize and work with details, flexibility and willingness to help as needed; heart for reaching the world for Christ and encouraging others to do the same. Helpful, but not required: future interest in working in Christian ministry, possibly with conferences, communications, and/or office administration.

COMPUTER LAB ASSISTANT/STUDENT COMPUTING SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Position Summary
To maintain the operability of the academic computing labs and provide first level support for students connecting to the network. Assist students, faculty, and staff in the operation of the computer labs and printing. Provide troubleshooting help and assist students in registering computers and connecting them to the NWC network. Work closely with the CT department to track incidents and escalate problems as necessary. Maintaining the computer lab environment, light cleaning and straightening as needed.
Qualifications
Strong customer service orientation and written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility and a desire to learn more about technology. PC troubleshooting skills and general computer software knowledge are helpful, but can be learned.

EVENT ASSISTANT
Event Services
Hiring now for Fall!

Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing helpful and pleasant assistance during a group’s use of the College facilities, providing a clean, safe environment before, during and after a group arrives, providing an experience for the group that will reflect positively on you and the department’s skill and reputation, providing Event Services and Northwestern College with a positive, friendly and accommodating representative for the institution and coordinating usher responsibilities for various concerts and events. In addition, candidate will attend all workshops/training sessions, provide office assistance, answer phones, light clerical support, campus signage, scheduling, filing, preparing event locations for conferences/events, scheduling ushers for various concerts and events and providing ushers with information regarding responsibilities, schedules and upcoming events and overseeing ushers during concerts/events as well as assist with the duties before, during and after the event.

Qualifications
Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and have a pleasing, service-oriented disposition, have the ability to maintain order in the midst of many activities, be able to respond effectively to individuals and various situations with a positive attitude, have the ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, tactful and courteous manner and have knowledge of word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT
BRC
Hiring now for the entire school year. Applications will be taken through August 27, 2006. Avg 10 hours per week, days, evenings, weekends. 8 positions available. Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to circulating of items, checking in/out items, renewing materials to patrons, helping patrons at circulation desk, answering phones, shelving materials, retrieving materials for courier service and preparing materials for circulation. In addition, candidate will assist library staff with various special projects and with opening and closing the library.

Qualifications
Candidate must have knowledge of Dewey Decimal system, must have the ability to withstand repetition in many tasks, and be able to lift heavy books and/or push a full cart of books up to 200 pounds. Candidate must be able to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous and tactful manner, be organized, self motivated and pay strict attention to detail, must be able to work independently, maintain a flexible schedule, working evenings, weekends and filing in as needed during vacation and illness and have knowledge of library organization and procedures. MAIL CENTER CLERK
Mail Center
Hiring for Fall - Starting August 27 (10 or more hrs per week)

Position Summary
Provide the various departments of Northwestern College and Radio with mail delivery and packaging services in a timely manner. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operating cash register, metering mail, delivering mail to students and faculty, providing customer service, completing processes related to the many mail services offered (FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, etc).

Qualifications
Freshman is preferred. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Able to learn new things quickly. Must be neat, organized, self-motivated, and be able to take initiative.

SEASONAL HELP
Campus Bookstore

Hiring now beginning mid-August and continuing through academic year 2008-09. Seasonal employees work during busy/rush times throughout the year. Help needed one week before and during the start of each semester, during sales weeks, and buy-backs. Seasonal Help can move to a more permanent position as job opportunities in the Campus Store become available.

Position Summary
Responsibilities include filling online orders, assisting customers in finding books, maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere, restocking merchandise and assisting in product placement. In addition, candidate will assist with miscellaneous departmental duties as directed by the Campus Store Manager.

Qualifications
Candidate must Candidate must be able to work with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous and tactful manner, be able to work independently without close supervision, be able to prioritize projects, completing accurately and in a timely manner, have knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills and must have strong verbal and written communication skills. SECURITY OFFICER, OPERATIONS CENTER

Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing cordial, professional greetings to all who drive onto campus. Regulate vehicles entering campus through ID checks and call-in procedures. Assisting visitors with directions and general Northwestern College information. Issuing visitor parking permits and log vehicles staying overnight without a permit. Providing information on College parking regulations. Informing visitors of the prohibition of drugs alcohol, tobacco and weapons, as necessary. Monitoring security and fire alert systems, and participate in drills. Responding appropriately in crisis situations by following published emergency procedures. Responding calmly and professionally to emergency calls and fire alarms. Assisting with crowd and traffic control during large events.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Previous safety or security work experience preferred.

Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting professors in class preparation, coordinating communications with students, tracking student grades, assisting professors in coordinating classroom activities and assisting professors with college administrative activities.

Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are no limited to driving vans to accommodate student’s needs. Drive within scheduled hours and on-call hours, making sure van vehicles have ample gas at all times and reporting all van vehicle problems to Supervisor immediately.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be reliable and responsible.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Tutoring scheduled hours for drop in and appointment-based tutoring in the writing process of different genres, including editing instruction.

Qualifications
