Dr. Yvonne RB-Banks
Hello, I am Yvonne Redmond-Brown Banks and I have been at NWC since 1998, as a faculty member and as the Director of the Center of Academic Programs for Support Services (CAPSS).
My passion is teaching!
I am directly responsible for all the human relations components of the teacher licensure program in the Department of Education, in which I am a full professor.
Course load:
• Human Relations
• Cross-Cultural Community Service
• Educating Diverse Learners
• Contemporary Cultures in the United States
• Introduction to Special Education
• Due Process: Trends and Problems
• Behavior Analysis: Classroom Methods and Interventions
Other duties and responsibilities:
In addition to loving teaching, I really do enjoy working for equal access in higher education for students with unique needs associated with ADA. I have access to God-centered people daily and the energy of the students! Areas of interest for me are related to accessibility, diversity, and inclusion. I spend a lot of my professional time advocating for those labeled “disabled” by society.
When I am not in the classroom or providing leadership for CAPSS, I travel.
Committee work allows me opportunities to work with many colleagues across campus outside of the department of education. I sit on the personnel committee, the Dept. of Education’s Exceptions committee, the CWC committee, the Diversity Initiative Committee and the REDOC committee.
Outside of NWC, I am on numerous boards and I truly find the work rewarding.
A few last bits:
A few places that I have been are Kyrgyzstan, Prague in the Czech Republic, Belarus, Australia, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, Vancouver, China, Jamaica, England and France. God has blessed me and I enjoy writing and presenting on topics that highlight God’s goodness, as it is manifested in our human diversity. Amen!
My words of encouragement to you are: DO persevere and DO stay in the Word.

I believe that Life is simple--if we remember what we are called to do. We are called to: "...act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God!" Micah 6:8
