POWELL, Wyo. - This summer, anyone who wants to dip their toes into college but isn't ready for a full-time plunge, can get financial assistance with a Sizzlin' Summer Scholarship from Northwest College.

The scholarships are offered on a graduated basis, based on total number of credits. Students who enroll in two-five credits during the summer term receive a $200 scholarship. Six-eight credits earn $400, and nine or more credits scores a cool $600.

The only requirement is that the student be a GED, home school or high school graduate. No one will be turned down until funds are exhausted, so early application is encouraged. The scholarship money can be used to pay tuition, fees, or purchase books and supplies. It may not be used in conjunction with any other scholarship, and international students are not eligible.

Online classes qualify for the scholarship, and so do courses offered in any on- or off-campus location (Cody, Worland and Powell). Northwest classes are offered this summer in topics ranging from archaeology, history, biology and math to rock climbing and kayaking. Cody and Worland-area residents can even be scholarshiped for beginning golf.

A very short application form must be completed and submitted in order to claim summer scholarship dollars. The form is simple, quick and can be taken care of while registering. Forms are available at the NWC centers in Cody and Worland, in the Enrollment Services Office of the Orendorff Building on campus in Powell, and online by following the "Sizzlin' Summer 2009 Scholarship" link.

Application forms can be submitted up to Tuesday, June 2, the first day of summer classes, however, students are encouraged to apply early because funds are limited. Students bear the responsibility for any costs remaining after the scholarship is applied.

The six-week NWC summer session runs from June 3-July 15 in Cody and Powell and from May 20-June 30 in Worland.
