P O W E L L, W y o. - When Blake Hendrix returns to Idaho Falls for summer break, he'll be leaving an important photograph behind at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., where he is enrolled in the Photography Program.

His image, titled "Monkey Soul," was chosen to receive a Purchase Award by the Northwest College Board of Trustees. It was one of four photographs selected for an award from 55 images that were juried into the college's annual spring student photo show.

Hendrix's award-winning image features a monkey he encountered in December at the Kabi Temple in Thailand during a semester break trip. It now becomes part of the college's permanent art collection and will be displayed on campus.

Hendrix is the son of Juli and Bruce Hendrix of Idaho Falls. He plans to graduate from Northwest in 2008 and then wants to find a career that combines travel and outdoor photography. He's got started down that path with an NWC photography field studies class last spring to Uruguay.

Northwest College, located in Powell, Wyo., 70 miles from Yellowstone National Park, is a two-year, residential college offering transfer and technical programs of study that blend traditional arts and sciences with emerging technologies.
