African-style Cirque du Soleil performs in Powell October 2

POWELL, Wyoming — “America’s Got Talent” finalist Cirque Zuma Zuma comes to Powell Thursday, Oct. 2, for a 7 p.m. performance in the Nelson Performing Arts Center at Northwest College.

After sold-out seasons in Europe and an extended debut run in Australia, Cirque Zuma Zuma is touring the United States with what is described as “an African-style Cirque du Soleil.”

The troupe combines the mysticism of Africa with the excitement of a theatrical cirque in a nonstop program of dance, acrobatics, tumbling, music and cultural surprises from all corners of the African continent.

The performers are trained in Kenya and Tanzania to showcase the best skills associated with African variety arts.

Known as the “ultimate African circus,” the show injects live music and dramatic percussion into pole and aerial acts, Egyptian limbo dances, South African gumboot dances, Gabonese tumbling and South African contortionist feats designed to keep the audience breathless.

Advance tickets are recommended because the performance is expected to sell out quickly. Tickets can be purchased at the NWC Business Office, Room 106 in the Orendorff Building. Admission is $5; children’s tickets are $3, and NWC students with ID pay $2.

Cirque Zuma Zuma is sponsored in Powell by the Northwest College Student Activities Office.
