The Northwest College Forensics Team claimed its place as top community college at both the Cougar Swing and the Rice University Invitational tournaments Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Part of the NWC team competed in Torrington, Wyoming, while team members Isaabella Munoz of Worland and Taylor Rempp of Harrison, Nebraska, traveled to Houston, Texas. The first half of the Nebraska tournament, hosted by Eastern Wyoming College, was a debate only tournament for NWC, and the second half, hosted by Western Nebraska Community College, was an individual events only tournament.
From the first half, Dalen Brazelton of Worland took fourth place in public debate and claimed second place novice speaker. Additionally, Dominic Damiano of Worland took third place in public debate, while Rock Springs’ Jared Lange claimed third place novice speaker.
Overall, the team earned the spot as top community college in debate and third place team sweepstakes.
In the second half of the tournament, Brazelton took first place in prose and third in overall individual sweepstakes. Damiano claimed first in drama and fourth in program oral interpretation. Additionally, CJ Day of Star Valley took sixth in persuasion, while Powell’s Jacinta Schneider placed fifth in poetry and second in prose. Trysa Flood of Lovell took fourth in poetry, and Emily Whitworth of Brattleboro, Vermont, earned third in prose and seventh in persuasion.
As a whole, the team claimed the spot of top community college and second place for team individual event sweepstakes.
At the Rice University Invitational, Munoz and Rempp competed together in Houston. The pair won enough rounds to earn the top spot in community colleges, getting cut from elimination rounds based on points.
The Trappers, coached by Jeannie Hunt and Bob Becker, will be back on the road to compete in Oregon Oct. 13-15.
