P O W E L L, W y o. - The Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development closes out January with three learning opportunities to get a handle on QuickBooks, Excel and spending smarts.

Rhonda Shipp teaches "Pocket Change" from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30. She'll cover several topics during the two-hour session, beginning with the thrill and despair of shopping and determining individual spending type-impulsive, fanatical, passive, avoidance, esteem or overdone spender. Then she'll move into the plastic edge of chaos (credit card use) and the six-month lunch. Cost for the class is $10 per person.

A QuickBooks for Beginners class, offered from 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 29-Feb. 7, is geared for those who have just purchased and/or begun using QuickBooks. Experience using Windows XP is preferred. This four-session training covers the fundamentals of the QuickBooks software program, including customer and vendor transactions, banking and creating a company file.

According to instructor Lynne Whitmore, the class provides lots of hands-on training so students become comfortable with the software and concepts before completing the class. Cost is $89 per person.

Participants in the Friday, Jan. 19, Fast Track Excel class learn through a hands-on course of study and receive a comprehensive manual to refer to afterwards. The 9 a.m.-4 p.m. format offers a fast learning curve on Microsoft's popular electronic spreadsheet programs. Students start by learning to customize Excel and how to use toolbars. In addition to creating a worksheet and entering formulas into cells, they'll also add charts to a worksheet, use Excel as a database, save and print documents. Taught by Fritz Wasmuth, this class costs $60 per person.
