P O W E L L, W y o. - Northwest College Workforce Development is starting the fall quarter with a new name and a new series of computer application classes designed to better accommodate individuals' busy working schedules.

Now called the Northwest College Center for Training and Development (CTD), the workforce training arm of the college staffs offices in Cody and Powell and offers classes, seminars and other training opportunities in Cody, Powell and Worland. Most offerings are noncredit short-term approaches to help participants get up to speed quickly to meet growing workplace demands for technology, customer service and specialized training.

With flexibility as a primary goal, the CTD responds as quickly as possible to requests from businesses, employers, employees and individuals who want to prepare for employment or upgrade their current skills.

A result of such a request is the new "Software After Hours Series" running from October through December in Powell. Most of the classes offered in the series meet a total of only twice from 6-9 p.m. during one week to explore a single software program. Registrations are accepted for individual software classes as well as for the entire series. Most classes provide a comprehensive take-home manual to each participant.

Classes are available in Microsoft Excel (beginning and intermediate/advanced), Word and PowerPoint. A QuickBooks for Small Businesses class offered through a partnership with the Wyoming Small Business Development Center meets three times and costs $79. Registration fee for all the others is $60.

In Cody, a $69 basic bookkeeping training is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 17-26. Also in Cody for those who prefer an intensive one-day session, a $60 basic Word class meets from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

More details and information about other training sessions are available online by following the "Training Schedule" link.
