POWELL, Wyo. - Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to join Northwest College for three weekend classes offered this summer in Wilderness First Aid, Rock Climbing and Kayaking.

Wilderness First Aid, a two-credit course that meets Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, covers first aid treatment for backcountry and remote situations, as well as adult CPR. The first aid component of the class is a Red Cross training and the CPR is through the American Heart Association.

“This is a perfect training for folks who will be backpacking or horse packing this summer far from medical services,” instructor Keith McCallister said. “Students will learn how to treat injuries in situations where there is no immediate advanced life support and in ways not typically employed in the front country or in urban environments.”

Students in the June 22-23 Kayaking class will learn the fundamentals of paddling, outfitting, transporting, and safety for the white water kayak. Rescue techniques are emphasized, and intermediate swimming ability is required.

The June 29-30 Rock Climbing class introduces climbing techniques, equipment, history, and ethics. Emphasis is on safety and climbing techniques.

Necessary equipment for all of these classes is provided by Northwest College.
