“Visual Treats and Maude Everly (M.E.) Series,” an exhibit featuring photography by Northwest College’s Jennifer Litterer-Trevino, opens Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the SinClair Gallery with a 4:30 p.m. artist’s reception.

Litterer-Trevino explains that her “Visual Treats” series, which features food photography, is inspired by the different places she has lived throughout the United States.

“When I move to a new region, I use the local ingredients to learn about my new home’s traditions and identities. Like the places I have lived, these new dishes and ingredients have become a part of my identity,” she says.

As an instructor of both introductory and advanced photography courses, she offers expertise in digital imaging, studio illustration and commercial product photography.

In 2002, Litterer-Trevino earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and theater at the University of Iowa. Soon afterward, she went on to earn a master’s degree in photography from Columbia College in Chicago. While cultivating a robust career as a photographer, she was an assistant professor of photography at the Art Institute of Austin for eight years in Austin, Texas. Her work has been featured at institutions in Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

“Maude Everly (M.E.) series is a fictional narrative about casting off the disillusionment of adult expectations and appreciating the everyday,” Litterer-Trevino notes. “Throughout this series, Maude navigates what she wants out of life and what life becomes.”

Currently, Litterer-Trevino is an instructor of photography at Northwest College. She teaches a diverse range of classes focusing on specialty topics such as camera fundamentals, lighting, food photography and Photoshop editing courses.

Entering her second year at Northwest College, she says she looks forward to the opportunity to introduce herself to the community through her work.
