Health, Outdoor, and Physical Education

Our mission is to emphasize the art and science of human movement while contributing to the physical, mental and social goals of students. Specialized course offerings in health, outdoor and physical education prepare students for transfer to four-year degree programs. All courses required to meet the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) Endorsement for Head or Assistant Coach are offered. The department provides instruction in a variety of wellness, outdoor and activity courses to meet the Wellness General Education requirement for graduation from Northwest College.

Program Specific Outcomes

The Department of Health and Physical Education has four learning outcomes which are directly related to class experience. The expectation is that one or more of the outcomes are addressed in each of our courses. The learning outcomes are as follows:

  1. Design and use a healthy lifestyle management plan.
  2. Apply knowledge of growth, development, learning theory, and movement principles to program development and lesson planning.
  3. Administer various assessments including Fitness, Strength, Motor and Academia.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of basic instructional strategies for athletic coaching.
