Don Christman holds a B.A in Music Education from Western State College of Colorado and a M.S. in Education from the University of New Mexico. At Western he studied clarinet with Dr. David Sweetkind, a distinguished clarinetist from the Eastman School of Music. Christman has broad experience in teaching and performance. He has taught music and directed high school and middle school bands in public schools in Arizona and Idaho. As a member of the music faculty at Yavapai College, he taught clarinet and saxophone, and performed with the Yavapai concert band, orchestra and jazz bands. In Ocala, Florida he played clarinet with the Kingdom of the Sun Band and with the Southern Express Jazz Band, playing alto sax and doubling on clarinet and flute. Don is an advocate for the versatility of the clarinet in all genres from classical to jazz, swing/Dixlieland/big band, where it has a rightful place, historically and currently, as a lead instrument.
