About the NWC Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate Program

This certificate is designed to prepare students to take National Certified Nursing Assistant examination to acquire Wyoming State Certification.  The course work provides training and instruction on basic theory, principles and skills necessary to provide client/resident care in the healthcare setting.  Students will be made aware of how state and federal laws, as well as policies and procedures of the institution, govern the practice of the nursing assistant.  Special emphasis is placed on the role of the nursing assistant in meeting the physical, psycho-social, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs of the client/resident.  The student will be introduced to medical vocabulary and terminology to give a working knowledge of medical terms, the use of prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combined forms of words.
The Nursing Assistant course is delivered in a hybrid format.  Students complete lecture and course work online, and attend face-to-face lab and clinical experiences in various long term care centers across the region.  Successful completion of the core course, NRST 1510, allows students to sit for the Wyoming State Board of Nursing certification exam.
