2008 Spring Commencement

May 17, 2008 - More than 400 students received associate, bachelor and master’s degrees at Northwestern's 2008 spring commencement ceremony in Maranatha Hall on Saturday, May 17.

Delivering this year’s keynote commencement address was Mr. Ronald Tschetter, the 17th director of the Peace Corps. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on September 13, 2006. Tschetter is the third director in the Peace Corps’ history to have served as a Peace Corps Volunteer; he is a graduate of Bethel University.

The Class of 2008 chose for their theme: “Do not pray for easy lives, but pray to be stronger men.
Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers, but pray for power equal to your tasks.
Then the accomplishing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be a miracle.”
- Phillips Brooks -

The class Bible passage was Lamentations 3:22-26: "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.'The LORD is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in Him.' The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD."
