Connection to NWC 

Northwestern College is “home away from home” for Dan Stoltz and his family.

He and his wife Robin graduated from Northwestern in 1983 and were married in Nazareth Chapel. Their oldest son, Dustin, graduated from NWC in 2008 and their daughter Heidi graduated in May. Their youngest daughter, Krista, will start at Northwestern this fall.

Stoltz was also a Northwestern employee from 1983–96. He previously served on the Alumni Council and also co-chaired the capital campaign for the new Billy Graham Community Life Commons. He has served on the Board of Trustees since 2006.

Education/Career

Stoltz knew at a young age that he wanted to go into the business marketplace and attend Northwestern College. “I have always been attracted to how finances play an important role to the success of any organization,” Stoltz said. “No matter how important or noble the mission, without margin, it does not exist!”

After he graduated, Stoltz became a Certified Public Accountant and later earned an MBA from the University of St. Thomas. He served as vice president for business and finance at NWC before being hired as CEO at Central Purchasing Services. He is currently CEO and President of SPIREFederal Credit Union in Falcon Heights, Minn.

Stoltz is involved in ownership of several Cold Stone Creamery stores, serves on the Lindbergh Foundation and The Cooperative Foundation, has served on the Presbyterian Homes and other ministry/church leadership boards along with being a City Council member for Circle Pines and Lino Lakes.

Hopes/Vision for NWC

“I grew up in a Christian home,” Stoltz noted, “but I tell others that Northwestern College is where the foundation of my faith was strengthened.” He is passionate about NWC and believes the college is positioned to continue nurturing students in their spiritual and academic growth for many years to come.

The Northwestern of the future will be one where “the Lord will be glorified in all that will be accomplished, in the growth of the programs and student body—traditional and nontraditional!” Stoltz is very excited about the new CLC building as it will provide a place where students can congregate and have a larger cafeteria and Campus Store.

Reading List/Words of Wisdom

Stoltz maintains his leadership edge through a reading discipline. “I have three daily reads: 1) As a believer—the Bible is essential. 2) Daily newspaper—we need to understand what is going on around us. 3) A book on your discipline—right now I am reading The Power of Focus. With focus and passion, your life and work will have purpose and intentionality.”
