Men's basketball team travels to Argentina for mission work – follow their blog!
Several members from the Northwestern College men's basketball team are in the area of Buenos Aires, Agentina on a mission trip with Sports Ambassadors.
Members of the team will periodically blog about their trip. Below are excerpts from the first few blog posts:
5/18/2010 This morning, our team flew in to Buenos Aires, Argentina after spending a long afternoon and night flying. We left Minnesota on Sunday afternoon and connected in Houston, Texas for a ten-hour flight taking us to our destination. After our first day on the mission field in Buenos Aires, we can see that God has already used us to make an impact on some of the lives in this area.
The group we are with is called “Sports Ambassadors” and the idea of our ministry is to attract crowds that want to watch us play in basketball games. From there, we share our testimonies and do some volunteer work.
5/21/2010 The last two days have been very busy for us down here, but we have been able to see God working through our ministry. Our prayers are being answered, and we are excited to see that God is using us to make an impact down here in Argentina.
A group of schools we have been doing clinics at are participating in a movement supporting no violence and making good choices. Tuesday and Wednesday we ate empanadas and were told about the current issues of kids making poor decisions at alarmingly young ages. The kids have responded well to our gospel messages so far. They really admire us. They may think we are professionals because after our demonstration, we are showered with requests for autographs. We’ve been able to use this platform to spark interest in God’s word by mostly signing gospel tracks and writing out favorite bible verses next to the signature.
