Roseville Winter Jazz Blast comes to Northwestern

Jan. 4—The fourth annual Roseville Winter Jazz Blast, sponsored by the Roseville Visitors Association, is coming January 15, 2011. This festival will take place in Maranatha Hall on the Northwestern College campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. performance by the JazzMN Orchestra featuring guest artist Wayne Bergeron. The Northwestern College Jazz Ensemble will kick off the evening concert.

Wayne Bergeron is one of the most highly-sought-after studio trumpet players in the LA scene today, and plays lead and jazz trumpet with Gordon Goodwin's famous Big Phat Band. He also has played lead with Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis & Sammy Nestico, and has over 300 TV and film credits. Bergeron has released two CD's by his own Big Band titled "You Call This a Living" and "Plays Well With Others". He has also recorded on hundreds of album tracks, including Ray Charles and Diana Krall.

The JazzMN Orchestra, directed by Doug Snapp, is the Twin Cities' premier professional big band and performs a broad range of jazz repertoire spanning classic and contemporary styles, showcasing outstanding jazz musicians from the Twin Cities. Their concert series at Hopkins High School Performing Arts Center features world-class guest artists. (www.jazzmn.org).

The day-long high school jazz ensemble festival encourages a positive, educational experience with clinics provided by professional jazz musicians and educators. Bergeron will host a Master Class Clinic at the Jazz Blast and will also be taking solos with the winning jazz ensemble.
