May 26—Northwestern’s student newspaper, The Column, recently received an Award of Merit from the Evangelical Press Association (EPA). The EPA's contest honors the best work done by EPA publications during the 2010 calendar year, including a category for campus publications.

Eight current and former Column staff members traveled the EPA convention in Chicago, including 2010 editor-in-chief senior Christine Henne. The convention provided the students the opportunity to connect with journalism professionals and learn more about the field of Christian press.

The event was a unique opportunity for senior Public Relations major Mandi Cherico. Cherico worked as an events intern with EPA in the months leading up to the convention, helping with the scheduling of workshops and coordinating other details to make the event a success.
