Various spring sports teams receive UMAC accolades

A number of Northwestern College Eagles received recognition from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference this spring.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Three Northwestern College women’s tennis student-athletes were recently named to the 2010 UMAC All-Conference list. Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn.), Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif.) and Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn.) all received all-conference accolades.

MEN’S TENNIS

A trio of Northwestern men’s tennis players were selected to the 2010 UMAC All-Conference team. Keagen Blancke (Ham Lake, Minn.), Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn.) and Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn.) all represented the Eagles on the All-UMAC list after the spring season.

MEN’S & WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Following the 2010 UMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet, several members of the Northwestern Track & Field Teams were honored with all-conference recognition. Student-athletes either had to win an event or accumulate a certain number of points throughout several events to be named to the all-conference teams.

On the men’s side, Josh Olson, Peter Elmore, Rahnee Dennard (Mesa, Ariz.), Cody Crum (Rushville, Ill.), Ian Stewart, Brandon Johnson (Plymouth, Minn.), Elijah Buecksler (Farmington, Minn.) and Taylor Gish (Lincoln, Neb.) all earned enough points throughout the competition to earn UMAC All-Conference Awards.

In women’s action, all-conference winners included Amanda Tilstra (Hills, Minn.), Hannah Orem (Rockford, Ill.), Mel Olson (Big Lake, Minn.), Emilie Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis.), Emily Henslin (Dodge Center, Minn.), Alyssa Hester (Mantorville, Minn.) and Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn.).

BASEBALL

Three Northwestern College baseball players represented their team and institution on the 2010 UMAC All-Conference list, which was released earlier in the week. Ryan Long, one of just a few seniors on the team, was selected to the all-conference first team. Freshman Zach Markwith was chosen as the league’s rookie of the year.
Fellow seniors, Dan Halstensgard and Ryan Nelson, were chosen to the all-conference honorable mention list after the Eagles’ fourth place finish in the UMAC standings. Halstensgard hit .320 in conference games, starting all 21 games. Nelson battled through a shoulder injury to start all 21 games as well.

SOFTBALL

Four Northwestern College softball players were named to the 2010 UMAC All-Conference First Team on Monday including Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn.), Briana Rodgers (Monticello, Minn.), Jenna Ruby (Long Prairie, Minn.) and Kristin Sigurdsen (Barron, Wis.). 2010 marks the first year in recent history that that the Eagles have had two freshmen make the all-conference first team.
