Immunization RequirementsMinnesota Statutes, Section 135A.14, requires all students enrolling in a post-secondary educational institution to show evidence of one dose of tetanus and diphtheria (Td) within 10 years of enrollment and one dose of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine or properly documented exemption. Northwestern College requires all students to show proof of immunization against diptheria tetanus (Td) within the last 10 years, as well as two doses of measels, mumps and rubella (MMR.) You will need to complete Northwestern's Health History form and immunization form before you can register for classes. To do this, go to theROCK. Immunization for HepatitisThe newest amendment extends this immunization law to provide education about viral hepatitis, including information about hepatitis A and B vaccines. It is the hope that this expanded law will not only reduce the risk of viral hepatitis on college campuses, but develop an adult population with more knowledge about disease prevention and transmission. For more information about hepatitis, visit the Minnesota Department of Health or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Immunization for MeningitisIn 1997, the American College Health Association recommended that students consider vaccination to reduce their risk for potentially fatal meningococcal disease, and that college health care providers provide information and access to the meningococcal disease vaccine. In 1999, the Center for Disease Control's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted to recommend that providers of medical care should inform incoming and current college freshman, particularly those who live in dormitories and residence halls, about meningococcal disease and the benefits of vaccination.
