Majors & Minors

History Major

The History Major is designed to provide students with a broad, general knowledge of the political, social and cultural history of a variety of geographic regions and time periods. The program functions as a terminal major or as preparation for graduate study, leading to career opportunities in historical research, law, the service professions, business, government or the ministry.

Are You Interested in Law?

Many history majors also go to law school. We offer effective preparation through its emphasis on critical reading and clear writing. History also allows for the examination of policy and results—important categories for legal argumentation.

History department alumni have gone to law school at Harvard University, the University of Minnesota, DePaul University, Hamline Law School, and William Mitchell College of Law.
