Northwest College sends 21 athletes to play at 4-year schools

Former members of Northwest’s basketball, soccer and volleyball programs will transfer to study and play at four-year schools this fall.

The Trapper men’s basketball team placed seven of its eight sophomore players at Division I, II and NAIA schools. Andreas Bigum (Texas-Pan American) and Lawrence Fejokwu (Coppin State University) will play in DI.

Two other players were given the opportunity to move on but chose to focus on academics, said NWC men’s basketball coach Brian Erickson.

Six men’s soccer players are moving on to play, and every sophomore on the 2013-14 squad is transferring to pursue a bachelor’s degree, said head coach Rob Hill.

Goaltender Kate Duffy is the lone women’s soccer player to move on to play at a four-year school.

Four Trapper volleyball players will transfer, including All- American Ana Jakovljevic, who will attend Division I’s Eastern Washington University.

The NWC women’s basketball team is the only squad to send a player over a border to continue her playing career.

Estefania Vilela will play at Medicine Hat College in Alberta, Canada. Andressa Augusto will play at Division 1’s Utah Valley University and Imari Simpson will play at Valdosta State University in Georgia.
