Guide for High School Students

Recommended High School Curriculum

• 4 years of English
• 3 years of math
• 3 years of natural science
• 3 years of social science
• 2 years of foreign language*

*Students who complete 3 years of one foreign language (average of B- or better) during high school qualify for a Bachelor of Arts degree.

How to prepare for college in your. . .

Freshman/Sophomore Year of High School

• Attend one of Northwestern's campus visit events.
• Learn more about the majors and areas of study you may be interested in.
• Meet with Northwestern College Admissions representatives when they visit your high school.
• Visit Northwestern's booth at local college fairs.

Junior Year

• Check out post-secondary options and PSEO through Northwestern's Early College to earn college credit.
• Attend one of Northwestern's visit events or schedule a personal visit on campus.
• Take part in leadership activities at your church, school and in your community.
• Take the ACT and/or SAT assessment exam in the spring.
• Research scholarship opportunities through your church, school, community and on the web at fastweb.com or salliemae.com.
• Meet with Northwestern College Admissions representatives when they visit your high school.
• Visit Northwestern's booth at local college fairs.

Senior Year

Fall Semester

• Fill out the application for admission (applications will be reviewed starting September 1 of your senior year).
• Take the ACT and/or SAT assessment test, and have your scores sent to Northwestern. Our college code is #2138 for the ACT and #6489 for the SAT.
• Attend one of Northwestern's visit events or set up a personal appointment on campus.
• Meet with Northwestern College Admissions representatives at your high school.
• Attend financial aid workshops at your high school (check with your guidance office for more details).

Winter (or after you've been admitted)

• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Northwestern College Financial Aid Application after January 1 (our FAFSA code is #002371).
• Audition for music scholarships (beginning in January). Visit the Music Department for more information.
• Submit Eagle Scholars Honors Application (January deadline) if you are eligible.
• Pay $200 enrollment deposit via mail or phone (800-692-4020 or 651-631-5352). Deposits are refundable until May 1.

• Complete housing form on theROCK (you will receive user name and password from the admissions office).

Spring

• Receive registration information and paperwork, and complete the required forms online.
• Submit the Appointment Request form for Summer Preparation Days, and select a date to meet a faculty advisor and register for Fall semester classes.
• Receive financial aid package and accept, appeal or decline financial aid offer by May 1.

Summer—you've finished high school!

• Attend your selected Summer Preparation Day to register for classes, meet with a faculty advisor, get your student ID card, and connect with the Student Development staff.
• Receive information about your housing assignment and contact information for your new roommates.
• Receive information about New Student Orientation which takes place mid-August.
• Get REALLY excited about coming to Northwestern in a few short weeks!
