Josephine: the dazzling life of Josephine Baker A Coretta Scott King, Best Children's Book of 2014 award winner, this book created in exuberant verse and stirring pictures by Patricia Hruby and Christian Robinson, is an extraordinary portrait for young people of the passionate performer and civil rights advocate Josephine Baker, the woman who worked her way from the slums of St. Louis to the grandest stages in the world.

Signs of their civilization existed well before the arrival of the Romans in 218 B.C., and though theories abound, no one has ever been able to determine their origins. Their ancient tongue, Euskera, is equally mysterious: It is the oldest living European language, and is related to no other language on Earth.
A Brief History of Time: from the big bang to black holes Stephen Hawking has earned a reputation as the most brilliant theoretical physicist since Einstein. In this landmark volume, Professor Hawking shares his blazing intellect with non-scientists everywhere, guiding us expertly to confront the supreme questions of the nature of time and the universe. Was there a beginning of time? Will there be an end? Is the universe infinite or does it have boundaries?

Cheney recreates the early Republic brilliantly, bringing forward the legendary characters who were Madison's peers in a lively, intimate, compelling portrait.
Orthodoxy For G.K. Chesterton, orthodoxy carries us into the land of romance, right action, and revolution. In Orthodoxy , a classic in religious autobiography, he tells of his pilgrimage there by way of the doctrines of Christianity set out in the Apostles' Creed. Where science seeks to explain all things in terms of calculation and necessary law, Chesterton argues on behalf of the Christian doctrines of mystery and free will.
A Treasury of Foolishly Forgotten Americans Subtitled: pirates, skinflints, patriots, and other colorful characters stuck in the footnotes of history, Michael Farquhar has scoured the annals and rescued thirty of the most intriguing, unusual, and yes, memorable Americans from obscurity.

You can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't always predict a person by the book he reads.

Meet Brett Williams.

He's the guy who knows the meaning of a hard day's work. Besides selling natural-raised meats through his CSA home business,  Brett sees to it that NWC's 132-acre campus stays in tip-top shape.  But even while he's repairing irrigation systems or operating snow removal machinery, he just might be enjoying a good book at the same time.

Brett listens to a diverse array of audio books that offer unique insight into some of history's most memorable figures, including Napoleon, Thomas Paine, George Washington and Cicero, just to name a few.

Guess what else Brett does? He likes to travel. His journeys have taken him across the globe to places including Belize, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Turkey, and Greece as well as across South Africa.

Might be the reason for his eclectic mix of favorite reads.

Give Brett a wave the next time you see him out and about on campus.
