Trappers Off To 0-3 Start On The Hardwood

Will Host Big Horn Federal Shootout This Weekend

The Northwest College Men’s basketball team is off to a rocky start to the 2019-20 season, going 0-3 during a three-game road swing through North Dakota and Montana last week.

On the road against Williston State on Thursday, Nov. 7, the Trappers got down early and never recovered in the 109-76 loss. 

Three Trappers finished in double figures, led by Max Dehon with 19 points. Kyle Brown netted 17 points, while Josh Petteno finished with 11. 

Jerome Mabry led the team in boards with six, followed by Dehon with five. Alan Swenson had five assists, while Seth Mason dished off four.

Against the Bucs on Friday in Glendive, Montana, the Trappers played well in the first half, and trailed just 39-37 at the break. 

Dawson exploded in the second half, however, outscoring NWC 55-30 to cruise to a 94-67 win.

Brown carried the load offensively for the Trappers, scoring a game-high 29 points, to go along with three assists and two steals. Ronald Fell was the only other Trapper to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points off the bench. 

Mabry finished with nine points and pulled down seven boards to lead the team. 

The Bucs had seven players in double figures, led by Beau Santistevan with 15 points. 

MCC 99, TRAPPERS 90
The Trappers came to play against Miles CC on Saturday, but came up just short in a 99- 90 loss to the Pioneers. NWC trailed 53-41 at halftime. 

Petteno led the Trappers with 20 points, including six 3-pointers, to go along with a team-high four assists. Mason filled in for an injured Brown and scored 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Rambo Badyal drained three shots beyond the arc to finish with 15 points. 

Mabry, Swenson and Jahquel Goss finished with nine points apiece; Mabry and Petteno grabbed eight rebounds each to lead the team. 

The Trappers opened up at home Wednesday against Rocky Mountain JV, and will host the Big Horn Federal Shootout this weekend. NWC is set to face Bismarck State College at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Game Gear at 5 p.m. Saturday.
