An offensive outburst paced by a four minute hat trick helped the Northwest College men’s soccer team cruise past visiting Lamar Community College 6-0 on Saturday.

Northwest was scheduled to start the weekend on Friday in Powell, but the match with Northeastern Junior College was canceled — giving the Trappers (6-3-1 overall, 1-1 Region IX) an extra day to rest and prepare for the Lopes (0-10 overall, 0-4 Region IX).

A high powered attack created pressure early and often and Northwest got on the board early courtesy of Pedro Miguel Vilaca, who scored after a through ball allowed him to round the Lopes keeper and tap it into the back of the net 10 minutes in.

The Trappers continued their attack while holding Lamar to few chances, and finally got another breakthrough late in the half.

Miguel Vilaca found himself open in the box and headed home a cross, giving Northwest a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.

That lead held going into the break, before Northwest got an offensive outburst early in the second half.

Paulo Victor Gomez got two goals immediately after the halftime whistle, finishing off close range efforts to double the Northwest lead to 4-0.

Just minutes later the Trappers were awarded a penalty.

The official initially gave a red card to the Lamar defender, but after further discussion it was determined to only be a yellow and the defender was brought back onto the field to continue play.

Victor Gomez stepped up, looking to complete his hat trick. He slotted the ball past the keeper, finishing a hat trick that took just four minutes into the second half to swell the lead to 5-0.

Northwest continued to control the possession and chances throughout the second half, and earned one more goal before the final whistle.

Ricardo Farias da Silva got his goal on a strong effort that found its way into the back of the net with 13:30 minutes left, giving Northwest the resounding 6-0 victory.

The Trappers outshot the Lopes 20-7 in the contest, while having five corners compared to none for Lamar.

After the match against Lamar, the Trappers kicked off a period of rest, before heading on the longest road trip of the season next week.

That trip will find them in southern Colorado, taking on the duo of Trinidad State and Otero on Sept. 29 and 30.

Northwest will return the following week for a pair of matchups against Casper College and Gillette College on Oct. 6 and 7.
