The longest trip of the season led to a split for the Northwest College men’s soccer team in southern Colorado, defeating Trinidad State 2-0 on Friday before losing a close 1-0 match to Otero on Saturday.

NORTHWEST 2, TRINIDAD STATE 0
After taking two weeks to rest and recover the Trappers (7-4-1 overall, 3-2 Region IX) made the trip to southern Colorado, beginning with Trinidad State (2-11 overall, 1-6 Region IX) on Friday.

Opportunities came throughout the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net with the teams going into the break tied 0-0.

Right out of the gate inside the first five minutes of the second half, Ricardo Farias da Silva found the back of the net off a John Joe Mullane assist to give Northwest the 1-0 lead.

That goal continued to hold an advantage for the Trappers, until Mullane gave Northwest some breathing room late.

He got his goal off a Pedro Miguel Vilaca assist, giving Northwest a two goal cushion with 20 minutes remaining.

The Trappers saw out the victory to start the road trip on a high note.

OTERO 1, NORTHWEST 0
After the victory Friday, the Trappers made the short trip over to No. 13-ranked Otero (10-0-2 overall, 6-0-1 Region IX) on Saturday to take on the Rustlers.

Otero was on the front foot throughout, peppering the Northwest goal to the tune of nine shots in the first half while allowing only one for Northwest.

That pressure paid off for the hosts, scoring one 24 minutes in to establish a 1-0 lead.

Despite an improved second half, the Rattlers continued to be the aggressors and outshot the Trappers once again 13-4 to help ensure the close 1-0 victory.

BUSY WEEK
Northwest will return home this week after several weeks away from home, beginning with a battle against Casper College (5-6-3 overall, 3-1-2 Region IX) at 4 p.m. on Friday.

That will be followed by a match against Gillette College (3-8-2 overall, 1-4-1 Region IX) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when the Trappers will recognize sophomore day.

The busy week will finish on Tuesday, hosting Northeastern (3-4-2 overall, 2-2-2 Region IX) in a rescheduled matchup from earlier in the season at 3 p.m.
