Students learn the practice of phlebotomy and are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions. Emphasis is placed on infection prevention, universal precautions, proper patient identification, specimen acquisition, handling, and processing. Quality assurance, professional conduct, and federal regulatory issues will be covered as well. Offered in a hybrid format, students complete course work online, and attend face-to-face labs and clinicals. Successful completion of both Principles of Phlebotomy and Phlebotomy Practicum makes students eligible to sit for the American Medical Technologists certification exam.
