Only two Trapper women’s basketball players will be making their way back to the court for Northwest in 2022, but they are the top two scorers from last year’s squad.

Center Darla Hernandez was the leading scorer for the Trappers last year, scoring 12.2 points per game on 50.9% from the field, while also bringing down 6.4 rebounds a game.

Hernandez finished with a career high 21 points in a matchup with Dawson Community College, while also securing double digit rebounds in five different games.

Hernandez will make the short trip to Powell from Worland for her sophomore season.

The second leading scorer for the Trappers last season was guard Nayeli Acosta, who made her way to Powell from Hereford, Texas.

Acosta finished with an average of 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while serving as the primary ball-handler for the Trappers dishing out 3.2 assists a game.

Trappers women’s basketball coach Lauren Davis said Acosta will move from the point guard position to shooting guard.

Acosta and Hernandez were the only two recruits Davis added to the Northwest team last year after she was hired just before the season started.

They will join nine official signees to Northwest, looking to improve on a 14-14 record from last season and a quarterfinal exit in the Region IX tournament.
