Transfer Securities

By donating appreciated securities to NWC Foundation, you avoid capital gains tax as well as receive a tax deduction for making a charitable gift.  If you have stock losses, we recommend you sell the stock to realize the loss for tax purposes.  Then, you can generate a charitable contribution deduction by donating the cash proceeds of the sale to NWC Foundation.

It is important that you notify us of any pending transfer, so we can alert our custodian.  Please provide the following information:

  • Name of the firm sending the stock
  • Name and number of shares
  • Approximate date of arrival
  • Please request that your broker attach a trailer to the transfer stating your name and desired gift designation.

Additional Ways to Give

Donor Advised Funds

Donor-advised funds, or DAFs, are an effective and growing charitable giving vehicle because they provide easy, tax-advantaged ways to support organizations donors care about. You can support Northwest College by giving to the NWC Foundation through a DAF.

IRA Charitable Distributions

Donors 70 1/2 or older are eligible to make tax-free donations directly from their IRA to the NWC Foundation. This is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution. QCDs allow donors to give up to $100,000 per year, tax-free, regardless of whether they itemize deductions on their tax returns. A QCD counts towards your Required Minimum Distribution.

Memorials/Honorariums

A gift to education is a particularly meaningful way to pay tribute to someone special in your life. It also makes a distinctive anniversary or birthday gift for those who hold NWC dear. We are happy to notify honored designees or the family members of those remembered with your gifts, if you provide appropriate contact information when you complete your gift.

Trapper Legacy Society

The Trapper Legacy Society recognizes individuals who have made an estate commitment or a deferred gift to the NWC Foundation to benefit Northwest College.  Members receive a Trapper Legacy Society pin and special listing in the Foundation’s Honor Roll of Giving, unless you wish to remain anonymous.  Learn more about Legacy Giving to support NWC.

Please notify us if you have included the NWC Foundation in your estate provision by contacting Shelby Wetzel. The size of the eventual gift does not need to be disclosed.
