NWC Sophomore Earns Honorable Mention All-American Title
Northwest College sophomore men’s basketball player Jeffery Solarin capped a brilliant two-year hardwood career for the Trappers by being named an NJCAA All American honorable mention on Monday. Solarin was one of three Region IX Players honored on the final national award list for the 2012-2013 season.
Solarin was a first-team all- Region IX selection this season after shooting better than 60 percent from the floor and averaging 16.4 points in just over 26 minutes of court time per game. Solarin was also a tenacious rebounder with a nose for the basketball, hauling down 8.9 rebounds per contest
Solarin served as the Trappers’ leader in both categories this past season. He was also second in blocked shots with 17.
Many of those numbers improved on a freshman campaign that saw Solarin average 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Over the course of his two-year career at Northwest College, Solarin hauled in 560 rebounds. He was a career 61.9 percent shooter from the floor for Northwest College.
The Trappers finished 22-11 this past season under interim head coach Brian Erickson. The Trappers advanced to the Region IX semifinals before being knocked out by defending regional champion Otero in a 75- 63 contest. It was the Trappers’ best postseason performance in a number of seasons.
Also from Region IX, Casper College sophomore Remi Dimo was named a second-team All American. Laramie County Community College freshman Deshon Portley joined Solarin on the honorable mention list.
