Community members who enjoy live speeches, debate, drama, poetry and more are encouraged to volunteer as judges at the upcoming Northwest College Trapper Rendezvous speech tournament.
In order to help volunteers feel more comfortable with judging the tournament, NWC Forensics will host a judging workshop Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. and again Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 5:15 p.m. in the Yellowstone Building, room 208.
Oftentimes, people are hesitant to help judge because they don't think they’re qualified but find it quite simple and enjoyable when they participate, noted Bob Becker, assistant professor of speech communication and forensics coach. The fundamental component of judging individual events involves ranking performances from best to worst.
Following the workshops, NWC Forensics needs a group of volunteers to help judge at the Trapper Rendezvous Tournament, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
Those interested in helping can commit hours convenient for them and are not required to judge throughout the full duration of the tournament.
Additionally, volunteers can choose from a variety of events including poetry interpretation, after dinner speakers, extemporaneous speaking, persuasive speaking, duet interpretation and parliamentary debate.
