P O W E L L, W y o. - The Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development is starting off the new year with noncredit classes on medical billing and coding, distributing news to media, computer troubleshooting and Excel.

Participants in the Friday, Jan. 19, Fast Track Excel class learn through a hands-on course of study and receive a comprehensive manual to refer to afterwards. The 9 a.m.-4 p.m. format offers a fast learning curve on Microsoft's widely used electronic spreadsheet program. Students start by learning to customize Excel and how to use toolbars. In addition to creating a worksheet and entering formulas into cells, they'll also add charts to a worksheet and use Excel as a database. Saving and printing documents is covered, as well. Taught by Fritz Wasmuth, this class costs $60 per person.

A class called "Are You Ready to ‘troubleSHOOT' Your Computer" meets one time, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. Taught by Isaac Cushman of JCS America, Inc., the class will cover protecting computers from viruses and spyware, internet safety, troubleshooting and maintenance. Cost is $25 per person.

The 120-hour Medical Billing and Coding Program prepares students to handle billing and coding duties, plus develop the operational, customer service and administration skills needed to be successful in billing and coding employment in the health care field. Classes meet from 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 23-May 3. Total cost is $2,400 per person. Scholarship funding is available. Please call to register as soon as possible as space is limited.

Chris Turner will show attendees at his Thursday, Jan. 25, seminar how to "Make Your News, Everybody's News" from 8:15-9:15 a.m. Turner said this free business seminar explains how and who to contact in radio, television and newspaper "to get your news, event or product across."

All these training opportunities are held at the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development located in the Park County Complex at 1501 Stampede Ave.
