POWELL, Wyo. - When it comes to marketing, social media is the new black—94 percent of small- to medium-sized businesses leverage social media for marketing. But getting started can be daunting. An all-day workshop Thursday, April 24, is designed to help local businesses get up and running in this exploding venue.

“Unleash the Power! Social Media for Your Business” meets from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Northwest College Center for Training and Development in Powell. It is led by Stan Skrabut, an instructional technology educational specialist through the University of Wyoming Extension.

Skrabut will explain the mind shift required to succeed in this relatively new medium and why 61 percent of small business use social media specifically to attract new customers.

“It’s not about ROI (return on investment),” Skrabut said, “it’s about ROR (return on the relationship).” He’ll show participants how to boost their customer relationships by clearly defining and providing value to their target audience.

The training will focus on seven of the most popular networking options — Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, blogging, YouTube, Foursquare and Yelp. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises and learn to use HootSuite for managing multiple social networks.

Cost is $50 per person.
