POWELL, Wyoming — The Northwest College Trapper Basketball Team will travel to Meeteetse Friday, Dec. 12, to conduct free basketball clinics for children in grades one through eight.
Trapper coach Brian Erickson and his players will work one-on-one and in small groups on passing, shooting and ball-handling fundamentals to help students understand and enjoy basketball at a young age.
Open to boys and girls, the 90-minute clinics will be held in the Meeteetse Middle School Gym. The first-fifth grade clinic starts at 10 a.m.; sixth-eighth graders hit the court at 1 p.m.
“I believe the value of outreach efforts like this go beyond the sport,” Erickson said. “The kids will meet actual college athletes and get to hear stories about working hard, not giving up and doing well in school so they could play ball in college. This up-close and personal experience with real life role models can have a lot of impact on young kids.”
The clinics are free, but participants must sign up and have their parents complete waiver forms. Sign-up/waiver forms will be given to each student at school.
The Meeteetse Recreation Department is handling the paperwork and has additional sign-up forms. Questions can be addressed by emailing or calling John Fernandez at 307-868-2603.
