No fooling: the Northwest College Horseman’s Club will host a “Fools Festival” and horse show Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, in Powell.
Competition classes and activities start at 8 a.m. each day at the NWC Equine Center, located at 883 Road 9 ½ in Powell. The event office opens at 7 a.m. both days to provide registration assistance before showings begin.
The two-day show will also feature a slew of local vendors offering various clothing, tack, jewelry, food and beverages.
Competition classes include Showmanship, Longe Line, Lead Line, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, In Hand Trail, Trail, Ranch Riding, Reining, Hunter Under Saddle and Hunter Seat Equitation.
In order to vie for “High Point Awards,” participants must enter one of seven divisions of competition. Each division consists of six to eight competition classes and include the following sections: NWC freshman, NWC sophomore, 18 and under, 18 and under walk/trot, open, open walk/trot novice and pee-wee (eight years and under).
Contestants can choose to enter classes individually for $10 each per day or opt to join a division for $45 per day. A $10 daily office fee is required for all registrations. Stalls are available for overnight boarding for $15 per night, but contestants must provide their own bedding.
The NWC Horseman’s Club will also hold a raffle drawing for three prizes immediately following showings on Sunday. Prizes include several Yeti hard-sided coolers and insulated beverage holders. Tickets can be purchased in advance and cost $5 apiece or six for $20.
All proceeds from the event go to help fund facility improvements at the NWC Equine Center.
