The Northwest College Music Department hosts a varied blend of concerts throughout the month of December.
To kick off the upcoming concerts, the first Guitar Night takes place Monday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Gestalt Studios at the Polar Plant.
Under the direction of Jeff Troxel, instructor of music and director of guitar, the evening event features performances in a relaxed coffee shop atmosphere by the Northwest Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Guitar Ensemble, individual student guitarists and guest artist Alex Nauman.
Seating for this event is limited, so those who wish to attend are encouraged to arrive early.
In addition, the annual Vespers Concert is set to take place Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at 137 West Second Street in Powell.
Under the direction of Brennan Baglio, NWC director of choirs, and John Miller, Powell High School choir director, the two groups join forces to present a program of choral music ranging from holiday favorites and spirituals to other sacred and secular works.
The third concert scheduled to take place is the annual Trombones with Friends Christmas Concert Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the college’s Hinckley Library Amphitheater.
This year’s concert features the Northwest Trombone Choir under the direction of Rick Parmer, low brass instructor; the Northwest Trumpet Ensemble directed by Morgan Grover, trumpet instructor; a French horn duet under the direction of Pat Parmer, French horn instructor; and the Usual Suspects Brass Quintet. Selections include “Hymn of Acxiom” and “Tromboni Suite,” as well as several traditional holiday classics and other brass selections.
Admission is free to all concerts. To learn more about these events, visit http://nwc.edu/sites/music.
