POWELL, Wyo. ─ The Northwest College Wind Band and Powell High School Band blend their talents in a musical feast at the annual wind band spring concert Monday, April 13, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Powell High School Band Director John Fabela. The PHS Band will perform “Overture for Winds” by Charles Carter, “Earth Song” by Frank Ticheli and “Invicta” by James Swearingen.
The Wind Band takes the stage under the direction of Craig Olson, visiting instructor of music and director of bands. NWC faculty, staff and former faculty take solo parts in Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday,” featuring Rob Rumbolz, Beth Hronek and Neil Hansen. Other selections include “Sedona,” a Steven Reineke composition filled with contemporary melodies, harmonies and rhythms; and “Saxophobia,” Rudy Wiedoeft’s popular ragtime hit from the 1920s showcasing the saxophone talents of NWC student Michael Sosa of Greybull, Wyoming.
Both bands return to the stage to close the concert with “Marche Royal” by Elliot Del Borgo.
Admission to the concert is free.
