The Northwest College rodeo team traveled to Bozeman, Mont., last weekend for a Big Sky Region rodeo hosted by Montana State University, and freshman Eric Coxbill turned in the top performance for the squad.
Coxbill finished first in the tie down roping event with a time of 22.1 seconds. He was the only Trapper to claim top honors in an event.
"Eric had a really good rodeo," said NWC head coach Del Nose. "But as a team, we didn't do nearly as well as I thought we would. Everybody was trying hard, but we weren't able to put it all together."
As a team, the men's squad from NWC finished fifth overall with 320 points. The top four teams were University of Montana- Western (835 points), Montana State University (475), Dawson Community College (400) and the University of Montana (390).
Other notable performances were turned in by Ian Pennington and Sid Sporer. Pennington recorded a third-place finish in bull riding, and Sporer tied for third in the team roping heeler event.
For the season, the Trapper men are ranked third in the Big Sky standings with 2,835 points.
The University of Montana-Western (4.255) and Montana State University (4,040) hold the top two spots in the standings.
In the women's standings, NWC (1,365) is third behind Montana State University (2,325) and the University of Montana-Western (1,805).
