P O W E L L, W y o. - For almost three decades, the Northwest College Music Department has sponsored the Showalter Memorial Music Festival. More than 500 middle school musicians are expected to participate in this year's 29th annual event held Saturday, Feb. 9.

They'll perform as soloists and in small ensembles for adjudicators, and then the outstanding performers of the day will present a free concert at 4 p.m. in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

This year's clinicians are Marianne Bibbey, Tom Bibbey, Jan Kliewer, Mike Masterson, John Miller, Craig Olson, Tim Schoessler and Vicki Streeter.

Middle school students are expected from Basin, Burlington, Byron, Cody, Deaver, Frannie, Greybull, Lovell, Manderson, Powell, Ten Sleep, Thermopolis, Worland, and from Fromberg, Joliet and Red Lodge, Mont.

Each musician who receives an excellent or superior rating will be awarded a scholarship to the 2008 Yellowstone Summer Music Camp.

The festival is named after Victor Showalter, a former music professor at NWC. Neil Hansen, NWC director of bands, is the festival director.
