POWELL, Wyo. ─ The annual Trombone Christmas with Friends Concert heralds the holidays Thursday, Dec. 11, with a 7:30 p.m. performance of seasonal favorites in Northwest College’s Hinckley Library Amphitheater.
Under the direction of NWC’s low brass instructor, Rick Parmer, this annual event features the combined Northwest Trombones and Big Horn Trombone Ensemble, assisted by several high school students from the area.
Included in their repertoire of traditional Christmas music and other selections are “Holly and the Ivy,” “Up on the Housetop,” “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Mary Had a Baby.”
Performers include Jack Nauman from Basin, Allison and Nick Tolman from Cowley, Bob Wellwood from Cody, Jessica Schreiner and Justin Mickelson from Lovell, John Henderson from Greybull and Mike Masterson from Powell.
This year’s concert will also feature a new brass quintet called The Usual Suspects. Members are Tom Bibbey and Beth Hronek on trumpets, Mike Masterson on trombone, Pat Parmer on French horn and Rick Parmer on tuba. Among selections they’ll perform to ring in the season are “Once in Royal David’s City,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Huron Carol” and “I Saw Three Ships.”
Parmer encourages the community not to pass up an opportunity to hear these unaccompanied horns as they celebrate the music of the season.
Admission is free and open to the public.
