POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II recreate the crafted and interpretive style of jazz at a 7:30 p.m. concert Thursday, April 25, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

The evening kicks off with Jazz Band II performing a trio of energized tunes directed by Craig Olson. Their playlist includes “Pig-Lickin’ Blues” by Jeff Jarvis, “Six by Six” by Doug Beach and “Poultry in Motion” by Yellowstone Jazz Camp faculty member Kris Berg.

Under the direction of Neil Hansen, Jazz Band I takes the spotlight with three pieces they recently performed at the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and will perform at the late-April University of Montana Jazz Festival in Missoula.

Included are “Prelude ’n Blues” by Matt Catingub and a John Prince arrangement of “God Bless the Child,” a jazz standard made famous by Billie Holliday. This version was recorded in the 1970s by Blood, Sweat and Tears. Tadd Dameron’s “Hot House” was arranged by Eric Richards, a Yellowstone Jazz Camp faculty member from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln.

The group closes the concert with a Bob Mintzer arrangement of Gershwin’s “But Not For Me.”

Admission to the concert is free.
