POWELL, Wyoming — Variety is the spice of life and the best way to describe the slate of October classes offered through the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development.

The month gets underway with an “OSHA-10 hour” class offered Thursday afternoon and all day Friday, Oct. 2 and 3. Taught by Scott Olson of Altitude Training, this course emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, with elective topics on machine guarding (subpart O) and lockout/tagout. Cost is $155 per person with substantial discounts for multiple employees from the same company.

ServSafe Training for anyone who handles food in a public setting is taught from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6 and 7. Beyond an awareness of food-safety challenges, participants learn about maintaining sanitary facilities and equipment; methods for purchasing, receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, holding, serving, cooling and reheating food safely; as well as how to train employees to run a hazard analysis critical control point system. Training is conducted by a ServSafe certified instructor; cost is $109 per person and includes a manual.

Professional writer and personal historian Rhonda Schulte will teach “Write Your Own Story” from 6-7:30 p.m. on six consecutive Monday evenings, beginning Oct. 6 and ending Nov. 10. Schulte uses writing exercises and memory-sparking discussions to help participants organize and document memories for compilation in a life writing notebook. She’ll also provide resources to help writers stay motivated. The $49 cost includes a $10 supply fee.

The logistics of “Getting the Sale” are spelled out by Wendy Corr in an 8:30-11:30 a.m. workshop Friday, Oct. 10. Corr will share tips for improving sales techniques and aligning customer needs with available product or service solutions.
