Trapper Stampede draws college rodeo to Cody Sept. 9 and 10

POWELL, Wyoming – College rodeo teams from across the Big Sky Region will be in Cody Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, to compete at Northwest College’s Trapper Stampede.  The annual event reins in the start of the season for the NWC team.

Action gets underway at 7 p.m. both nights at the Cody Stampede Rodeo arena with bareback riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, bull riding, calf roping, goat tying, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and team roping.

This year’s rodeo is dedicated to Justin Honken, a 2016 NWC graduate and Trapper Rodeo Team member, who died in a boating accident in July. Honken, a native of Laramie, Wyoming, graduated from NWC in May with an associate’s degree in criminal justice, and ranked seventh overall among steer wrestlers in the Big Sky Region last spring.

General admission is $10, and students with college IDs are free.
