Once again, a Northwest College Trapper has drawn national notice.
Sophomore outside hitter Lauga Gauta was named the National Player of the Week in Division 1 of the National Junior College Athletic Association. She was chosen for her performance in the Trappers’ 3-1 win over Laramie County Community College on Oct. 8.
In that match, Gauta paced the Trapper offense with 23 kills and picked up 13 digs offensively. In addition, she served four aces and assisted in two blocks.
Gauta, who was recruited following her career at Garden Grove, California, High School, is the team leader in kills for the season, averaging just over five per set and totaling 363 on the season. Defensively, she has recorded 206 digs — tops on the team — along with seven solo blocks and 34 block assists.
This is the sixth time in the past four seasons a Trapper player has recognized as National Player of the Week. In 2012, Ana Jalovljevic was honored twice, and she was honored again in 2013. Aleksandra Djordjevic received the honor in both 2014 and 2015.
