Lady Trappers Halt Losing Skid

Building an early lead last Saturday afternoon helped the Northwest College women’s basketball team snap a six-game losing streak.

The Lady Trappers jumped out to a 30-7 lead over Little Big Horn College and went on to sweep the season series. The lead reached 47 points at halftime and Northwest rolled to a 114-35 win at Crow Agency, Mont., on Feb. 6.

According to the Region IX Conference website at region9athletics.com, the visitors had six players score in double figures.

The Lady Trappers were led by Whitney Hatch with a game-high 21 points. Kealani Sagapolu had 16 points and 16 rebounds. Chandler Rose scored 13 points, Maddy Johnson 12, and Jacey Shaw and Lauren Hinckley 11.

Prior to the lopsided win, the losses had begun to mount for the Lady Trappers.

At Casper College the visiting Lady Trappers fell behind at halftime and couldn’t make up the difference in a 73-58 loss on Jan. 27.

NWC was led by Shelby Nicholson and Larissa Knight, who each scored 11 points. Sagapolu and Hatch each added 9 points. Sagapolu paced the efforts on the glass with a team-high 10 rebounds.

It was a fifth straight loss for the Lady Trappers in a home game on Jan. 30. NWC lost 71-63 and got swept in the season series against Gillette College.

The next game on Feb. 3 was an 86-68 loss on the road to Sheridan College.

In that conference setback, the Lady Trappers fell behind 25-15 early and couldn’t make up the difference. Sagapolu led the way with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Aubree Porter and Kennedy Netto each added 9 points in the road loss.

Northwest College women are now 8-16 overall, 1-7 Region IX.
