NWC Women Drop Pair To Open January

Conference play in Region IX began with a pair of losses last week for the Northwest College women’s basketball team.

In the first game after the holiday break on Jan. 6, Casper College defeated Northwest 78-64 at Powell. On the road last Saturday, the Lady Trappers lost 73-58 in double overtime to Gillette College.

According to the Region IX website, the Lady Trappers fell behind by 13 points at halftime to Casper. Although it was a tight second half, NWC was unable to make up the difference in the home loss.

Chandler Rose led the offense game with 14 points. Kealani Sagapolu netted eight points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Whitney Hatch added 12 points and Aubree Porter canned a trio of treys for nine points.

It was a balanced offensive effort in Saturday’s road game, but not enough in the end. Sagapolu had a strong game inside with a double-double for 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Shaw was hot from the outside with a trio of 3-pointers. She had a total of 15 points on the day. Shelby Nicholson added eight, while Kennedy Netto hit a trey and chipped in a total of seven points.

Northwest College falls to 7-11 overall, 0-2 Region IX.
