Trapper women roll to wins/NWC men defeat Bismarck

The Northwest College women’s soccer team rolled to a pair of lopsided soccer decisions against Western Wyoming and Bismarck State College.

Samiha Simao scored a hat trick as Northwest College sent a barrage of shots on goal during a 6-0 blowout of Western Wyoming. The victory improved Northwest to 4-1 in Region IX play.

Simao was simply overpowering. The Brazilian freshman repeatedly gashed the Western Wyoming defense, accounting for nine of Northwest’s 27 shots on goal in the contest and finding the back of the net three times. Miriam Gelderloos, Marena Quint and Kaitlyn Smith also scored for Northwest College.

Lindsey Nieters assisted on two of the Trappers’ scoring shots. Smith, Cassi Zimmerman, Daisy Sanchez and Brandi Roetzel assisted on the team’s other goals.

Northwest led by a comfortable 2-0 margin at intermission. In the second half, the team’s offense kicked into overdrive as the final 45 minutes were largely spent with the ball in the Trappers’ attacking zone.

Western Wyoming managed just 10 shots on goal in the game. Morgan Cox and Kaitlyn Smith combined in goal for the Trappers’ fifth shutout of the regular season.

On Tuesday, the Trappers were back in action in North Dakota, taking an 8-0 decision at Bismarck State College.

Similar to a game played last month between the two sides, the Trappers controlled the action from the opening whistle. Cox was forced to make just two stops, one in each half, as the ball routinely stayed in Northwest’s attacking zone.

Simao added two more goals to her season total as the Trappers buried six goals into net in the first half on the way to a big victory.

Christine Silverstrone added a first-half tally, as did Miriam Gelderloos off a feed from Simao. Sydney Heckel and Kaitlyn Smith added second half goals for Northwest.

The scorers for two of the Trappers’ first-half goals were not provided on the official box score for the match.

The victories lift Northwest College to a 9-3 overall record this women’s soccer season. The Trappers’ next game will be Oct. 12 against nationally-ranked Laramie County Community College. That game will also determine the No. 1 seed for the Region IX tournament.

It also marks the final home action of the 2011 women’s soccer season for Northwest College. The team wraps up its year with a pair of road games against University of Colorado club teams before competing in the Region IX tournament in Rock Springs.

MEN’S TEAM ALSO WINS
The Trapper men’s team broke into double figures in the win column with a 3-0 decision over Bismarck State College on Tuesday. Matheus Santos and Zach O’Dell each scored for the Trappers in the win.

Like the women’s game, much of the action in the contest took place in the Northwest attacking zone as the Trappers outshot Bismarck State by a 26-6 final margin. Cameron Stanek earned the shutout in net for Northwest College.

The Trappers improved to 10- 3-1 this season with the win. The team wraps up the home portion of its season this Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northeastern in a Region IX contest.

The Trappers also have road games at Otero and Northeastern remaining on their schedule.
